Hello 2021 Live at Home

Live at home and do more experiments.

This time a Drum and wobbly bass. Let's try ;)

Drums and Wobbly Bass
This is the first track produced, performed and recorded in video after many years.
Live on VM-108 Wav DJ Machine only. No Keosspad support.
This basic track was created on Ableton and uploaded onto the Wav DJ software.
The 4 bass patterns were uploaded separately into 4 (FX) keys. No, synchronise. The bass upload features 4 different bass patterns/FX buttons, allowing me to play them individually and adjust them as I please.
This is the first track, and I still try to make it better.
YES... Lots of wobbly basses but that gives a human feel ;)

New DaDa

 2013

Hello friends.
I decided to stop posting on this blog, as it was merely a diary I maintained to document the experiments I conducted with the WAVDJ - VM-108 Machine.

I am now taking things into a more professional approach, and I have created a new blog (the official one)
DaDa Project Blog

This blog was about a discontinued music machine. Because I didn't have much access to machine upgrades or guidance on how to use it, I had to create the blog and document all the experiences I was having with the machine until I figured out how to use it to make music.

Since 2009, I have been working on the VS Music project. As you may understand, the machine is not a professional £ 1000 music piece of equipment; it is. It is a toy with many settings and is (nearly) totally adjustable to the needs of the person who makes music with it. To use this (Toy) to make music, I needed other, more expensive and professional (toys) to create music on a more professional level... as I did!
If you'd like to hear some of the first adventures with this machine, I uploaded tracks on YouTube. These are made with the original drums of the machine and the help of the Kaossilator (as I do ;)
Opus 1 / opus 2 / opus 3 / opus 4 / opus 5

If you'd like to listen to some of my late live music (still using the machine, but in a different way), you can visit my SoundCloud page.

Perhaps later, I will open a Facebook page to showcase my work to a broader audience and start to get some gigs to play out, but it's still too early to discuss that. Anyway, if you visit my official page, you will see all my activities and ideology behind this project. If you ask yourself why I deleted all the posts, I would say...
I didn't delete the post! I only turned the post into a draft because I wasn't formally writing on this blog, but instead as if I were talking to myself.
I needed to register the experiments I was conducting with the machine and sound, and use them as a reference. So... I don't think anything is interesting for you to read in the old posts of this blog unless you have one of these machines too ;)

And so it starts the DaDa Project.
Enjoy life and don't forget to visit my blog. You can also book me to play at your local venue/pub/bar/chill-out party/festival, or even at your private party.

As one of my upgrades for the planned live shows, I got this for the improvised sounds. I was working with the miniature version of this, but a friend offered it to me at a reasonable price, so I decided to take it. Studio upgrade :)

Styles / Music / Samples

I need to come and write more specific stuff about the music styles I choose for this project (mainly ambient), but inside of the Ambient is many other styles, so here are some of the styles I have lined up for this music project:

AMBIENT
ELECTRONIC
TRIP_HOP
INDUSTRIAL
DUBSTEP
ETHNIC
DANCE (including Goa / Psy)
FLUTE PROJECT (a little project for a flute player ;)

For now, I need to organise these samples and start working on them
Next more info ;)

Not dead project

Hello, 2012 !!

I know... it's now the end of the year and I haven't written anything since 2011.
Not because I didn't work on this project, but because I have maturing ideas and making different plans.
So.. I decided to make many changes and move forward to bring this project out of the studio. How?

Since I bought the Docking station for the laptop, I believed the machine would work with it, but unfortunately, there was too much delay between the sound backgrounds and the drums, and the beat was running out on the 8th bar.
If you lost this chapter, read here:
http://wavdj.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/update.html

What to do !? If I can not use the Drums of the machine, I will not use but I will not drop this project and abandon everything only because the drums are going out of synch, so I decided to not use the drums of the machine and this will let me with only the background sounds wish now... are complete tracks made on Ableton projected to be overdub with the sounds of the kaossilator into a mixer ;)

I have many ideas, but I am writing this now to let you know that this project has only just begun.

Next, I have 108 new tracks (backgrounds) to work on in Ableton and set up to upload into the machine. From there, I will return to leave more information. Until then,
Keep it experimental and ... mental ;)

Settings...

Machine settings

If you read the chapters before, you know that I lost all the settings of the machine and all the loops and samples I had uploaded to the software before, so I had to recreate everything from scratch. However, this time I approached it differently.
I did (again) new tracks on Ableton to work in a machine as sound support, but this is all about evolution, so I have made things different now.
Instead, I made background sounds (sound textures) in Ableton and uploaded them into the software. This time, I started to create proper music styles and produce tracks with spaces in between, so I could use the Kaossilator sounds without them crashing.

I still need to make the new drum patterns in the machine. The first row is already made because I was producing some Dubstep last time and I wanted to listen to how it would sound, so I made some changes in the drum patterns on the machine in the first row, the other ones will come with time ;)

This setting will be changed, but for now, this is how I have the machine set up:

These are the styles I have decided to make...

1- DUBSTEP ----  (I can do 30 tracks of each music style, and I can do 6 different drum patterns for the 30  music styles in the machine only. ) Still, the only ones I have worked a bit with are the drum patterns of the machine

2- INDUSTRIAL
Most parts of these samples and loops are taken from the first textures I did in Ableton on the first experiments with the machine ;)

3- PSY TRANCE
Thanks, Mark Grey (Soundmagus), my friend, for the samples and QPA Qubensis psy audio. You guys are brilliant, but I have work, and I know now that I have a very unique psy trance sound thanks to your loops and samples.
This is a process ongoing ;) Thank you ;)

4- FSOL
This sample was taken from some EPs. I cut the samples from the tracks and uploaded the best parts.
( for me)In the machine to loop and work on top.
HAA, Yes, you can call remix ;)
Samples were taken from various sources.

5- TRAX
This is experimental, industrial, mental, etc, and something more ;)
All the tracks I have uploaded (approximately 6) are my original compositions, produced using Ableton and intended to be part of a live mix with the machine. (You will know more in the video.)

6- AMBIENT
This is what I'm still working on, and I am not sure what I will do, but time will tell me... will he?

Ok, next I will start the video chapters.

Update....

Disaster...

After all the work I did, I lost all my music settings and samples after a virus on my PC.
For that reason, I didn't come back early.

Yes, I lost all the samples I had and all the drum patterns... everything!
Luckily, some loops I have saved in my Studio PC (where I make master and work with Ableton)

Doesn't matter, cry now... It's all gone.
All the backgrounds and textures, as well as the drum patterns and some tracks I had uploaded to the software, were gone.

I did get disappointed, but I didn't give up. I have been looking to get an old laptop (IBM) only to work with this machine and finally be mobile to make live shows, but... I HAVE A STORY FOR YOU:

Since I lost all my work due to the virus on my PC, I reinstalled the software and started from scratch.
I want to take things one step forward, so I decided to look for an (OLD IBM LAPTOP) because the old IBM laptops have the right connections to use with the machine (as you know from chapters before, this machine only works with tower PCS because they have a PS2 connection and a regular soundcard connection. Without these connections, the machine does not work, even using adapters.

However, after searching for a while, I found a solution to connect my laptop (Dell) to the machine, so I purchased it on eBay...

Brilliant, is it ???

It was... if the machine worked on it :( :( :(
It does work, but for some stupid reason, the drum loops don't keep the exact BPM.
The BPM fluctuates, so it's not possible to get the loops playing at the same tempo.

I don't know why... Everything looks and plays fine, but the Drum loops don't stay stable in BPM.
I know it's ridiculous, but I really don't know why this happens!
I installed and reinstalled multiple times, but the issue persisted.

I LOST MY DREAMS OF PLAYING LIVE WITH THIS MACHINE!!!
(Unless I can take my PC to the stage, but that will look like a Jean Michel Jarre in concert)
No more live sessions !!

I did lose my expectations... I really want to make (WHATEVER)  from this machine.
I can always make home sessions 0, and that is what I want to show in the next chapter.

I will create a professional (Studio/Music) video.
This will be :
*VIDEO  0 - Sound introduction
* VIDEO 1 -  Play the track live
* VIDEO 2 -  Recording the individual sounds (drums/ percussions/ FX/ track)
* VIDEO 3 -  Add the sounds to Ableton
* VIDEO 4 -  Track construction
* MP3    - -   Track already made

Let's wait for the best.
Keep an eye on the DaDa Project Blog, I will be updating this shortly.

Release and video

The release and video are out now.

So... did you think it was all over?
Did I just give up?
Never.. Nop.. rian de rian, na pa do nada !!

After numerous workarounds, I made several changes to the music sounds, and I contacted a friend to create a video for the release.
The release is now for download in all major download stores.
DaDa Project - Electric City (EP)
You can download the release from here:

The video was produced by Seamus (FilterKik Media)
http://www.filterkikmedia.com
and have (by now) 9.992 views

This release ended up being released by the Lua Records label, as NCP Records was still in the development stages and couldn't afford to publish the release.

Finish tracks & label website

Finlay, the tracks are finished (some).

Unfortunately, the tracks I uploaded to Send Space before were deleted. This happened because I didn't open a proper account. I just uploaded the tracks, and after some time, if you don't open an account, they delete your files.

The tracks I uploaded were the body of all the construction, so you didn't miss much. Anyway, you can still listen to some of that work in the videos I upload and have posted on this blog.

NOW... Things have changed!

The tracks do not sound the same; they are more polished, and I have finished and mastered some of them.

PLUS... I created a label for experimental music artists (like me), the label is called:

N.C.P Records
(No Commercial Potential Records)

I have created this label page on the Bandcamp page for artists, and have uploaded the finalised tracks:
http://ncprecords.bandcamp.com/

There are 5 tracks on there for now, and these ones I call (electric city - opus 1/2/3/4/5)

I cannot say that the following tracks I will compose will be in the same vein as these ones, but I will try to keep the style so I can have a shelf too... ha ha ha ha ha.

I hope you enjoy it ;)

Live Demonstration - Video

Here is how it all works...
WAVDJ vm108 + Kaossilator.

This is not a proper life. I did this with one hand only and wish I didn't need help at all.
(The other hand was filming the thing)

In this video, I didn't include the Korg melody, the sound bend from the wheel, and I didn't have much flexibility to work as I do with the Kaossilator PLUS. This is a very short demonstration. Usually, this track takes 10 to 15 minutes from start to finish and is a progressive thing.
In this case, it is a rapid demonstration, but it works!

So... off we go then :

Questions ??
Please... do it!

The sounds in the tracks are progressive. This is live music and is not made on the computer, will take time to have all the tracks constructed.

I am making this fractal video to see how it works and because I always can send a message with the music.
To make these images, it take a long time and patience. The videos take lots of images too, so I will be short of images soon unless I get a different program to make fractals with different scripts.

I think is a good idea to have images and video at the same time. A big projector will be good.

The first video (altered states opus 4) was about art in Dadaism.
This one is about Albert Hofmann and Timothy Leary.

The images will tell you :)

Music, again, is a minimal progressive (live)

Please note that this is only the first track I am posting.
I have plans to make different music, not just the minimal, ambient, industrial, and experimental, I am doing at the moment.

Enjoy it ;)

The sounds in the tracks are progressive. This is live music, not created on a computer, and will take time to construct all the tracks.

In this track, you can listen to what is called Improvisation (as all the tracks I do), but in this case, the start sounds go off-beat.
Don't be scared, it's not like that for long and again, it has a nice mental effect ;)

On this track, I added some bass again.
This is (possibly) one of the most expressive tracks from this lot of tracks I did on this date, but your comment will say if it's true or not.

The background for this track is very tricky as it sounds off tempo but is precisely at the exact (bpm) and makes a vibraphone sound very weird ;)

The sounds in the tracks are progressive. This is live music, not created on a computer, and will take time to construct all the tracks.

Second track.
This track starts like the first one (with the kaossilator sounds first and then the drums) the sounds are progressive and they take you slowly into a ritual meditation.

On this track, I use a bass background, which contradicts what I said earlier about avoiding bass in this track.

This is electronic music for your brain, not for the dance floor ;)
Again, the track was recorded at once (live), no tricks or masterings or studio works.

Write this to be better explained and easy to read... The sounds in the tracks are progressive. This is live music and is not created on a computer; it will take time to construct all the tracks.

This is the first track with both machines, WAVDJ and KAOSSILATOR.
At this point, I was doing an experiment with the sounds at the start.
If you can be aware, the sounds will be out of tempo... but not!
This creates an extraordinary effect on the music, as after the beat starts, you will feel like the sounds are out of tempo. However, after a few seconds, you will notice that the sounds are connecting fine.
This is a mind game in the music that I would like to play more with ;)

On the other hand, I can change this by starting the tracks with the drums and then stopping the drums after a few seconds, adding some sounds.
After leaving the sounds play for some time, if I switch the drums again, they will start on tempo.
Mental music tricks.

The sounds in the tracks are progressive. This is live music, not created on a computer, and will take time to construct all the tracks.

Here is the first experiment with the machine, both with and without the kaossilator.
A very long and experimental sound.
I cannot call this the best of all the tracks, as it incorporates elements from every track background I used to construct the others. However, I have to post this as it is the first track I made with the machine.
No KAOSSILATOR on this track, it's just the Machine sounds.

I will call this one:
Hypnotic Ambient - The Start

You will notice some hummm in the background.

The sounds on this track are only from the
WAVDJ - VM - 108 and I try to make the most possible of this.

 Tracks (part 1)

Finally!
Track.... it's the sound of something you have broken ;) (joke)

I will start to post the tracks I did, and I will appreciate your comments, whatever your comment is.

The sounds in the tracks are progressive. This is live music, not created on a computer; it will take time to construct all the tracks.

This is not professional material, and I am not looking to make professional sounds with these machines; I just want to make something different.
That's my DADA PROJECT ;)

I will start posting the tracks by date, which means you will begin listening from the worst (experimental) to the best. It is an evolution and I would like to post the tracks as they come.

No tricks. This is pure life. They will be posted as they are recorded.

To start, I would like to get a name for all the tracks as one, so I will call these first tracks:
The Start (No kaossilator)
Altered states, opus 1
Altered states, opus 2
Altered States Opus 3
Altered States Opus 4
Altered States Opus 5
and so on ...

I will post all the tracks I have recorded and all the stages I passed to reach the last (in perfection) of tracks, but I will take you from start to finish.
(This will be complicated :)

Are you ready?
Okay, the sound is experimental and progressive, as all the tracks are made in real-time and with only two machines. No mastering, no overdubs, no tricks, it is as it is.
Here are the machines used to produce these tracks:
WAVDJ - VM -108

KAOSSILATOR

I will explain everything track by track, page by page, and sound by sound.
I hope you enjoy it and leave your comments.
